New Portishead songs (video/MP3)

Posted Monday, December 10, 2007 @ 07:33 in Music by Joshua Glazer

Our favorite '90s gloom-hoppers are back, with three new songs performed live at All Tomorrow's Parties this past weekend. The band both headlined and curated the event which also included performances by Aphex Twin, Autolux and GZA/Genius.

Song 1: Lots of gritty percussion reminiscant of the goth-industrial influences Beth Gibson and Co. wore underneath their sleeves. More severe than the Portishead we remember.

Song 2: Probably the most rocking song this group has ever done. Lots of drums and drones. Is Beth ever gonna sing? Oh wait, there it is. We're back against the rainy window pain. God, her voice only reflects on emotion—but it's a powerful one.

Song 3: Probably the most recognizable Portishead track, but the tempo is still pretty fast for these guys. Suspect it needs some fleshing out before the album hits later this year.

I just busted a nut watching that live performance...haha I love Portishead and I've never seen them live before. Hopefully, the rumor about them playing at Coachella '08 is true because I'm there for sure if it is true.

There can't be no Coachella this year without Portishead on the lineup.
