Review by Paul Glanting:

The cinematically classic architecture of the Avalon Ballroom in Hollywood provided a backdrop which was equally as epic as the events being celebrated, URB's 150th issue and Delicious Vinyl's twentieth birthday respectively. The beautiful and classy folkers who came to celebrate the monumental milestones, including off-the-wall fashion designer Jeremy Scott, got their swerve-on to DJ sets by Bobby Evans (Evans and Eagles) and Philippians whose sets went across the galaxy and back again, spinning Aretha Franklin, The Pharcyde, Justin Timberlake all the way to camp classics "Whoomp! There It Is" and Khia's "My Neck, My Back." However, somehow it all made sense musically defining the legacy that is URB magazine.

Exactly How long has URB been doing this? What is meant by "this" is the consistent coverage of movements within urban culture from their embryonic stages through their meteoric rises to the mainstream. Watching overhead slides featuring each and every URB cover from its inception in 1990: John Digweed to Talib Kweli to El-P, TV on the Radio all the way to the anti-hero stance of Mr. "Nike Boots" Wale, it becomes apparent it's been a very long time. So to repeat the question, Exactly How long has URB been doing this?.....Digable Planets dominated two or so covers.....Moby had hair; URB has covered urban alternative culture from the ground-up for a prolifically long amount of time.

Peaches' set sent the crowd into a euphoric oblivion, performing "Two Guys(For Every Girl) with accompaniment from her two awkwardly shaped male dancers. Peaches blazed through several more and proceeded to then bring out a posse of foxy female dancers as well. Spontaneously, the gravelly voiced Tone Loc came out and took us all back to '89 with "Funky Cold Medina" placing everyone who was in attendance at the Avalon Ballroom, in-sync lyrically, rhyming about the legendary pickup potion.

Of course, the main event was the duet of Peaches and Tone Loc collaborating, or rather, tying old-skool with new-skool with their versions of the classic "Wild Thing." The collaboration was a microcosm of what was being celebrated: the genre-bending mayhem of the slickly modern Peaches giving a forty ounce of respect to the early groundbreaking music which was largely responsible for sparking not only the music of today but also the underground culture which URB magazine has so efficiently covered for the last 150 issues.
