Still Lyte as a Rock

Still Lyte as a Rock

In a twist that proves the awesome power of mind, I was thinking a couple weeks back, "Whatever happened to MC Lyte?" when suddenly the news came around that she'd be sharing the bill with the Roots and Big Daddy Kane on VH1's Hip Hop Honors Tour. Lyte holds a real place in history and definitely is there in a lotta fans' hearts, especially those who once tuned into a pre-Rap City BET. I suppose it's an old school concert, meaning you have to dig the old school to care, but I anticipate at least a few mics getting ripped like it matters. Here are the remaining dates:

09.27.07
Norva
VA
09.29.07
9:30 Club
DC
09.30.07
Rams Head
MD
10.02.07
Palladium
MA
10.03.07
The Electric Factory
PA
10.05.07
Nokia - 8 PM
NY
10.05.07
Nokia - 11:30 PM
NY

And the full link to VH1: http://www.vh1.com/artists/tours/hhh/2007/. Also, from You Tube is this clip of Ice-T at the Black Women in Rap showcase, or something to that effect, proving that he not only loves MC Lyte but is actually in love with her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSPtKsenNtg

Ice doing these interviews is incredibly reminiscent of Rusty Cundeiff backstage in Fear of a Black Hat, particularly when he introduces Yo Highness ("Highness" is the correct spelling, FYI) to the camera. If you've never seen the true rap Spinal Tap, the appropriate instruction is to step your Netflix game up.

Also, peep Ice's Thrasher T-shirt. This guy was a master at crossing over; here's some badass gangster rapper who's really into Slayer. There wasn't much for a certain demographic not to like.

Comments:

I saw this show at the HOB in LA (Iron Mike was there too) and it was amazing. Black Thought and Skillz rip through a bunch of old school classics w/ the help of the rest of The Roots crew..and Lyte and Kane look like the are stil in their prime.
