10 Reasons To Be Excited for Jay-Z's New LP

Hova's back. It's been rumored but now Jay-Z has admitted it. Despite the broken heart that's just hardly mended after the disappointment of Kingdom Come, we're fucking amped. Now, ten reasons why:

1) Without the three-year build-up of his unretirement, the pressure for pretentiousness is off.
2) In every interview about Kanye West, Jay-Z continues to just gush about how much West cares about the artistry of music. He's seen the sales numbers from last week's show-down and maybe Big Brother has learned something from Little Brother.
3) By making an interpretation of American Gangster—the film that Jay-Z has been dreaming of his entire life—and concentrating on specific scenes, Jay-Z's version of the movie should be his most focused work since Reasonable Doubt.
4) Michael Jordan. Everybody remembers when His Airness came back from baseball, only to get stripped by Nick Anderson in the conference finals against the Orlando Magic. Of course, Jordan came back and won three straight titles and made damn sure that every single person knew he was the greatest player of all-time. Even Chuck D admits that Jay-Z is the Jordan of rap.
5) Lil Wayne absolutely merked Jay on his own beat for "Show Me What You Got." There's no way Jay didn't hear that and understand that he got beat on his home floor. Not to mention all those solemn head nods around the hip-hop world when Weezy calls himself the "Best Rapper Alive." I don't think that Jigga truly believed Lil Wayne until now.

6)

7) Lines like this one reported in the NY Times: "Poor me, Dad was gone, finally got my Dad back, liver bad, he wouldn’t live long, it snatched my Dad back"
8) That line is taken from a song called "No Hook," and by definition, that is a song dedicated to "real hip-hop." A real MC doesn't get R.Kelly on a song called "No Hook," he rips it to pieces with swords on some real verbal assaults.
9) The streets are saying that lead single "Blue Magic," produced by Pharrell, sounds "Rakim-ish"
10) It has to be better than Kingdom Come
