Repeat Repeat – Why Must (Review)

Repeat Repeat

Why Must

Released by Soma

Repeat Repeat's 'Why Must' ironically seems to follow no predictable path, morphing forms as the minutes go by. In between dashes of static and haunting whispers, the tune plays with panning and programming in a slightly creepy, albeit addictive style. Gaiser's Self Explanatory Mix takes away most of what makes the original fun, leaving an all too predictable and basic tune.

Vesuvius

Released by Freerange

Acid laden and smoothly intoxicating, 'Vesuvius' borrows the best from a multitude of genres. While the undertones are distinctly acid with blistering sharpness, the spacey vocals and soaring synths creep into the scene slowly and deliberately. Justin Martin's mix goes more minimal with solo notes intensifying in volume and pitch throughout for one heck of a ride.

Saillant featuring Oliver Twisted

BeginTheBeginning (Lorant's Sweat on the Dancefloor remix)

Released by Soundgroove

This digital only release features the vocals of Craig Mitchell and is given a deep, dark and hypnotic groove by producer Lorant, whose work on Twisted tore up dancefloors earlier this year. Lorant added the Starpoint sample 'I Want You' to the already dirty original, along with unabashed congas - making this an authentic, sexy late night in NYC experience. Smooth blends of tech, melody, tribal and vocals all work together here.

Kyau vs. Albert

Are You Fine?

Released by Anjunabeats

Breakneck trance offering here from the founders of the Euphonic label. This was snapped up by the brilliant A&R attendants at Anjuna due to the meshing of tough PVD styled beats with uplifting chords and sing along, ballad-y male vocals. Pick of the lot comes from Coldharbour hero Markus Shulz, who really flexes his production smarts with a glass-smashing uptempo remix - a true indicator of the US trance sound.

Summer Swell/Destination Space

Released by Propulsion

Steve Birch is Solstice, also Lucid Dreamer. His productions have appeared on John 00 Fleming's Joof label and now he gives us these two very well made productions. Nothing over the top, but they're also not playing safe. 'Destination Space' is as effective as they come, with good use of trance riffs, bleeps and sweeps - a breath of fresh air for the genre. 'Summer Swell' is one of those tension builders where you know the track is combustible and about to blow, and it does - with bubbling ...
