Bad Taste 2

Released by BC Presents

Maldini & Vegas sure know how to pick 'em as they drop the 2nd Bad Taste LP. This one is plate after plate of essential dnb from heavy hitters like State of Mind, Eddy Woo & Moving Fusion, Body & Soul and more. My personal choice out of the bunch, the vocal and guitar driven 17th Avenue cut 'Memories'. Huge pads and reeces flow through stomping drum patterns and a heavy vocal making this one an instant crowd favorite.

Optical, Matrix + Ed Rush

Perfect Drug

Released by Virus

The Virus boys come back swinging on their first 12' from the 'Chameleon' LP with everything a big tune should have and more - a huge running bass line, steppy drum patters and an infectious vocal hook reminiscent of Freeland's 'Soul'. Tears the floor apart time and time again!

Show Me What You Got Freestyle

Released by white

Maybe this Just Blaze production has finally grown on me, maybe Wayne just sounds like he's having more fun with the layers of horns than his hero, but somehow, someway, Weezy F. Baby owns that 'best rapper alive' title he's been claiming for years. While Jay-Z sounds uninspired on his first lead single in two years, happy to allow Dale Earnhardt, Jr. to the driving, Birdman, Jr. treats this beat like a blessing. He's making hip-hop sound fun, like when 'Rump Shaker' ruled the airwaves. Whether it's a clever ...

J.E.E.Z.Y.

Released by Def Jam

Opening this cut with a Mr. Rogers-like intro, Jeezy slyly reveals his understanding of what it means to be a platinum artist. Inherently, it means that the majority of people who are buying his records have probably never even been to the Trap. 'It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood-birds are chirping-that may be your hood, but this is my hood,' the Snowman says, before launching into his typical dedication to the corner. As always, it's a haunting depiction'and one that oddly launches into a third-person nursery rhyme ('Jeezy ...

Return of the Teacha

Released by ???

The Blastmaster is pissed. 'Return of the Teacha' is from his upcoming record Spitacular and it's quickly apparent that he's putting it upon himself to school the youngins of rap, by any means necessary. Over soaring violins, Kris brandishes glocks and disses that don't always connect ('What's your address?/69 Brokeback Mountain?''were prophets always homophobic?) but his seething anger feels painfully real. Like, old man's heart might explode kind of pain. He does come correct on the crack rappers of the day''You've been cut so much/you startin' to look suicidal''and ...
