Silent Movie

Released by Minus

Canada's Adam Young and Joel Boychuk's take on the minimal sound is a little more upfront than most and is definitely a leading indicator of where the sound is going: bigger, badder and definitely funkier. The five tracks on this EP follow on from the sessions in which they cranked out their contribution to the min2MAX compilation and are all brilliant but it's 'Stay Out's' vocal hook that you've been hearing out on the dancefloor.

Prelude to Foundation EP

Released by Underline

As you'd expect (having been inspired by Isaac Asimov's 'Foundation' series) RomanianRadu Muntenanu has turned out a very modern bit of Techno, stripped down cuts featuring grinding bass lines and other elements to get the crowd moving. 'The Mule's StellarSymphony' is the track of the EP with it's drunken bassline, warped strings and whispered vocals it captivates the listener and takes them to another place and time.

Daniel Offerman – Arabian Pleasures (Review)

Daniel Offerman

Arabian Pleasures

Released by Just

Daniel Offerman is a new signing to Just but his music's a highly polished example of the Berlin sound, minimal but dancefloor friendly. 'Arabian Pleasures' weavesvery simple elements into an effective late night mover while thequirky bassline and totally tweaked vocal of Intimate Teenagers' should see it getting a more play closer to peak-time.

My Robot Friend – Rapture (Vector Lovers/Freelance Hellraiser remixes) (Review)

My Robot Friend

Rapture (Vector Lovers/Freelance Hellraiser remixes)

Released by Soma

New Yorker MRF's cover of the old Blondie classic is already a work of unarguable genius, as a robotic couple bicker over Debbie's lyrics, so it's a tough one to mess with. Soma labelmate Vector Lovers leaves things pretty much intact, just a little more dancefloor-friendly, but former mash-up king Freelance Hellraiser can't help throwing a few spanners in, adding bleeps and beats and salvaging only a small vocal nugget. The original remains by far the best.
