The '80s is soooooo 20 years ago. It's so old that it sounds new again. Like getting a fresh pair of shell toed Adidas. Currently atop OurStage's indie/alternative channel, Cute Phase's song "Lonesome" sounds like something The Cure would of made (or perhaps should of made). Robert Smith (Cure lead singer) would be so proud of these LA hipsters. Not only do they sound the part, they also look the part very well also. If you check their Myspace profile , notice the angular Flock of Seagulls-ish doo on some of the pictures. Other songs like "London Drugs" and "Victim Loved Silence" has got that Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode feel that it's once again hip these days. Very Nostalgic.
Since launching in April of this year, OurStage has thrived on bridging that gap to the next level. On the site, users from across the globe have participated in more than one million judging battles. And the traffic to the site is only growing each month.
Well, once again OurStage is upping the ante by officially emerging from it's beta stage today. What does that mean to the users? In addition to all the previous features the site had to offer, they've recently unveiled two new channels for musicians and filmmakers — Artist Access and a partnership with BackStage, which is "America's most trusted actors' resource."
Artist Access is a new program that'll link top-ranked OurStage musicians and filmmakers with industry veterans such as John Legend and John Cameron Mitchell for advice or even opportunities to advance even further. The partnership with Backstage has established two new video channels to the lineup BackStage Stand-up comedy and Back Stage Actors' Reels. Both of the new channels will award prizes to emerging actors on a monthly basis.
Looks like there's more of an incentive to get to posting.
Remember that chick Lady Luck ? Last we saw Luck she was all up on the Clue mixtapes and was gettin gully up in Fight Klub against former Terror Squad chick Remy Ma. Wasn't she signed to Def Jam at one point? Anyway, Miss Luck is getting her hustle on OurStage right now. Currently numero trienta y ocho (Number 38) on the hip-hop OurStage list, looks like that chick from "Da Bricks" is having fun this time around with "Bunny Hop." It sounds more playful than anything else we've heard from her. Let her do her thing, life ain't all guns and drugs. Come on do her dance, everyone in "Cackalack" and "Tenn-A-Key" is doin the "Bunny Hop."
Check out the "Bunny Hop" here and then start doing the dance.
Remember that one Tootsie Pop commercial from back in the day? The one where that kid's asking "how many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of Tootsie Pop," and then the owl eats the whole thing. Well it's nearly 30 years later and he finally sets his sights back on revenge. It still takes three licks. Check out the Jacob Drake's OurStage comedic video, "Tootsie Blow Pop" by clicking here.
After that check for the original video by clicking the jump.
We've heard songs like Red Flecks "Hey Da Da Da Da" countless times, but this track is just so damn sexy, it's just hard to resist. Whether it's Amy's sexy vocals, or the low-key synths, this track just oozes sexy. It's actually sorta reminiscent of Blondie (remember when Deborah Harry wasn't old and wrinkly and actually hot). They've even garnered very positive reviews from all the shows that they've done and some stuff on print publications. And if that's not convincing then chiggity check "He Da Da Da Da." It's what all the cool scensters are listening to these days. Their latest album "The Story Cannot End" is out now and is available on iTunes and their website, www.redflecks.com.
It seems that most R&B singers are trying to be rappers. With all that thugged out this and that going on, and all about doing it in who knows where. As of late has always, they've been associated with the excessive bling heavy, dubbed out whips with the candy coated paint. Marvin Gaye is probably spinning in his grave right now singing "What's Going On?" What ever happened to being smooth, suave, and sweeping that special someone off their feet. There ain't none of that freak you up the butt with my gun stuff with Theo. Its no question why Theo is currently at the top of OurStage's R&B list. This dude is slick, he's bringing that smooth R&B sound that'll earn that stamp of approval from legends of R&B's past. On "Zero" Theo is so sick like Neo. No manufactured beats here either, just straight raw instumentation. Here he's showing that vulnerable side that guys rarely ever do after a failed relationship. R. Kelly, stop singing about the closet and take notes.
Edgar Allen Poe was a writer/poet that was one of the many folks on the forefront of the American Romantic Movement back in the day, waaaayyyy back in the day (More like the 1800's-ish). He was definitely a master of his craft, telling intense tales of mystery and fiction.
Much of those same genius attributes can be the same for Justus League member Edgar Allen Floe (sans the alcoholism... hopefully). Currently he's not yet at the forefront of the underground, but eventually he could be, who knows. Dude's definitely a master of his craft, lyrically. He could spit," quoth the raven, nevermore" and still be nice. Not a believer, Mr. Floe even made Preemo's Sirius Satellite Radio show "LIve fom HQ" playlist. Dude's currently #25 for hip-hop on OurStage , but his mic swagger is like he's gunning for number 1. Check his OurStage profile here and his song "The Righteous Way To Go".
