HARD Summer Festival: A Primer :: A warm-up workout for this summer's chance to party HARD

By URB   Photography by URB

05/01/08 :: URB web

Go HARD or go home, right? The clichés and puns are ripe with the dirty dirty that gets the kids up in the morning, but we'll just stick to the music. After HARD NYE tore downtown LA a new one, the newly minted festival is invading Los Angeles this summer. On July 19, it's officially going down. Since the line-up might as well be an issue of URB, we're breaking down the acts that are going to get you acting a fool.

N*E*R*D

nerds

Too often, "genre bending" is a word used by music journalists to describe some shit they just don't understand. N*E*R*D, on the other hand, will bend all your notions.

MSTRKRFT

jason jason y'all

They may not give a fuck about your vowels, but they will get everything on you moving (maybe even those bowels...ew). MSTRKRFT are dance dudes of mass destruction, from their remixes to the duo's plain plantains originals.

URB #136: Fuzz Gun: Their name may be impossible to remember, but MSTRKFRT's dirty dance tracks linger like a hook-up who won't go home

SPANK ROCK

xxxchange & naeem

Who says indie rap can't party? Illadelphia's finest pairs 2 Live Crew's antics with bottom-out bass...and that's only on record. The live show is not one to miss. We're talking speaker climbing and all around booty grinding.

URB #147: Spank Rock vs Chromeo: Tales of madness, mayhem and matching outfits with dance music's rappiest new wavers

KID SISTER

URB#145

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Who says girls can't spit? We will not have any of that talk in this here room. Pro nails? Check. Beeper? Check. Control? You better bet your beeper and those professional cuticles. Party rap's queen. The end.

URB #145: Kid Sister & Flosstradamus: Chi Town kids aren't apologizing for their sound (or their music)
URB #150: Chicago's Juke: Spearheaded by Kid Sis & Floss, the Windy City is ready to blow

Hey Porkchops -- that background trak on the KILLTHENOISE youtube is NOT KILL THE NOISE music! I don't know what the F#@$% that is, but you need to come correct. Fix it, eh? Or Ludachrist may turn you away at the gate into heaven.
