DJs and Turntablism: Are hipsters and laptops killing the art form?
Hey Mr. DJ, put a record on…no really. I mean a fucking record. you know, those vinyl thingies that old timey people used to play?
While having dinner with Ian last night, the topic of dj culture came up. The electro, hose, nu-rave scene has burst like a serato pinata here in LA, and in NYC as well. Now, I’m always a champion for new music and creative outlets…but it seems to me there is a glut in the market. It’s like that Jack Black joke in the Tenacious D pilot, about aspiring musicians… (paraphrasing) “if you suck, and we ask you to stop, you must stop!” Lately I can’t walk into a bar without screaming FOR THE LOVE OF KRISHNA, PUT THE iPOD DOWN!
Next 100 Artist Vince P, teams up with another Next 100 Artist, Old Gold, for the first release from his all Next 100 Arist Mixtape. (Whew!)
Here's the fist track "D.O.G. (Drugged Out Girls)"

Meet Atlanta's "odd man out", Spree Wilson. Originally from Nashville, TN, Spree brings something totally leftfield to the trap/snap scene that seems to have a stronghold on Atlanta G-A right now.
One of the great and genuinely seminal bands from the late 70's (influencing everyone from the Minutemen to, uhm, A LOT of uh, bands that are out now) is now a duo, but maybe the change will do them good...
The new remix of Santogold's "Creator" by rapper Donnis gets dowwwn. Donnis' speedy lyrics complement the bumping pace that Santogold set for one long verse, but then it simply blends into the original track with Switch and FreQ Nasty for the remainder. It's an already fun party track with the opening addition of quick-lipped rap.
Peep it he-yer.
URB gets exclusive and interviews Roger Taylor, drummer of Duran Duran and also a DJ -- right before he goes onstage in San Francisco.
Yes they are older now but did you ever have teenage girls willing to go to the ends of the earth to take your clothes off?
