The guffaw behind that growl is unmistakable. We already got our tickets to Notorious' opening night and will probably be bumping Ready to Die--almost exclusively--in the office next week. And you should see the interns' uncomfortable faces when the sex skit comes blaring over the speakers.

Karen Dreijer Andersson recently embarked on a solo project called Fever Ray. Anderson is known for being half of the duo that made up The Knife. With only one song streaming on the bands myspace and a record release date set for March 2009 fans eagerly await the 2009 arrival.
How do you get posted on URB.com? Make something quality related to The Wire. Even a year after its conclusion, the HBO series remains the best thing in the history of television. No hyperbole. Skillz turns his summation skills towards a fictional series, rather than 365 days of calendar hip-hop. His recap is pretty thorough. RIP: D'Angelo, Bodie, Omar, Stringer, Snoop...and even Snot Boogie. Props to Shake.

Today Spin Magazine named Animal Collecive as possibly releasing the best album of 2009. I guess that could be remotely true if a year was five days long and our planet was called Mercury instead of Earth. And if that were true we'd all probably be on fire!
See what Donnis does to the ladies? He makes them cry and take their shirt off...in a romantic, groupie kind of way. How does he do it? Is it the magical forests that he occupies? All that new money? Nah, it's crazy remixes like this twist on Brit-Brit's banger. (No Perez.) It comes from the upcoming mixtape collab with the venerable DJ Benzi. Updates and the tape's lead single, "Like Dat," should show up on this blog real quick.

The hip-hop producers' equivalent to Michigan's "Fab Five" (Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose, Ray Jackson, and Jimmy King) from the early '90s is a difficult debate. Many would argue that J Dilla, Dre, Pete Rock and DJ Premier fill four out of the five slots, but what about that fifth spot? There have been so many legendary producers over the years that any number of answers could be justified as correct. RZA? Large Pro? However, there is one young producer, hailing from the Wolverine state, whose already strong resume may someday, sooner than later, have his name mentioned as one of the "Fab Five" producers to ever do it. Black Milk, 25, in many ways is a composite of each of the previously mentioned producers. He brings the soulfulness of Pete Rock, the classic feel of Primo, the consistency of Dilla, and the work ethic of Dre. However, Black Milk wants to be recognized for his bars just as much as he is recognized for his beats. Recently, URB caught up with Black Milk to discuss his latest project, Tronic, what's next for Slum Village, and the evolution of his art through his beats and rhymes.
To celebrate their 10th Anniversary, LA's eclectic home to post-rock, shoegazer, experimentla hip-hop and party rap, Mush Records, are giving away a two part mix "fractured, transformed and reconstructed" by Thavius Beck. The first part is a mellow set from artist such as Her Space Holiday, Clouddead and Stereolab, while mix two picks things up with Busdriver, Aesop Rock and Elliot Lipp.
