URB Exclusive: Stream Giraffage’s Upcoming EP

Dear URB reader, if you’re one who easily feels like an under-achiever around young progenies then navigate away from this post now. And, if you’re one who doesn’t, then you’re about to enjoy an exclusive EP stream by San Fracisco-based producer Giraffage and his 16 year-old collaborator XXYYXX.

Only a ripe-old 21 years himself, Giraffage (also known as Charlie Yin), delivers a subtly stop-and-go track with “Even Though“, his first release for French label Kitsuné. As XXYYXX’s chopped up and high-flying vocals come in and out throughout Chin’s tune, its minimalistic drum parts accent the elevated tones of the singing. The whole composition feels sort of mournful and slightly epic, but, as Kitsuné releases tend to be, is also very infectious.

Also appearing on the label’s Kitsuné America compilation later this month, “Even Though” is out as an EP single on the …

LA’s Apliiq Shows Off Customizable Fashions, Talks Getting Coachella Inspired

Just in time for Coachella, a SoCal-based line of customizable casual wear is debuting a tribute to this season’s most favorited fashion statement (florals) as well as to the care-free attitude of an upcoming celebration of all things art that’s about to cause this little area of the world to become overrun by the hippest design and music enthusiasts alive in the northern hemisphere today.

Housed wihtin Los Angeles’ renowned garment district, Apliiq (pronounced “A-pleek”) invited Urb into their airy downtown studio to talk about how the brand’s unique idea of allowing a fashion shopper to create a personally tailored apparel experience through the selection one-of-a-kind deadstock fabrics for a garment of their choice was just the right concept to get into ahead of a celebration known for its own take on innovation and astounding visuals. Read ahead for a convo with …

Computer Magic Debuts New Track, Plays San Francisco Tonight (MP3)

Somewhat the Tavi Gavinson of the indie club circuit, Danielle “Danz” Johnson is the baby-faced visage of the next round of dance punkers to be birthed by the warehouses and outer boroughs of New York City. Having already made an impression on audiences via Kitsuné’s 12th Maison Compilation with the single “Ex-Believer”, Johnson, otherwise known as solo act Computer Magic, just released an entire EP worth of tracks via the label that helped her make her first mark in the mind of record buying audiences.

Today the 22 year-old ingenue is debuting a track from the 5 song set, entitled “Orion“, right here on URB.com. On the single “Trinity“, the normally cosmic effect of Johnson’s keyboards and lush vocal prowess are replaced with markedly heavier synths and more intricately arranged drum programming to create a poppy, polished ambiance.

Housse de Racket Continue Across North America, Reveal Their Tour Playlist (MP3)

If you’ve ever dreamed yourself a touring rock star, looking out the window of a bus, surveying the landscape and listening to key tunes you haven’t heard in months, you might also have wondered, what exactly are the sounds your favorite bands listen to as they take in those rolling hills, farmlands, and prepare to wow an audience at their next stop? Well, wonder no more, because it seems that in the slightly more electrified sector of the alt rock pantheon touring musicians listen to Aaron Neville and The Beach Boys as they navigate their way across previously unseen territories. Those sounds seem like pretty standard fare if you consider that most contemporary players source their compositional concepts from recordings that remind them of a time gone by. However, its not so standard fare if you know that the contemporary …

Alexander Holland Joins Disco Lexicon, Gets Remixed By Gigamesh (MP3)

With a remix EP on DJ Huggs‘ imprint Disca Bueno forthcoming, it might seem curious that Alexander Holland has not actually spent the bulk of his career playing to boogie-loving audiences, nor fetishizing Moroder much they way many who spend their whole lives loving disco do. In fact, the London-based Adelaide native actually honed his masterful production skills by way of entrenching himself within a world of glitchier, significantly more rapid beats when he began playing around his native city as the drum and bass act Well Being.

Though his newest release, City Full of Lights, has Holland diving head first into perky guitar refrains and blissfully soaring vocals, the years spent thinking about various elements of a dance composition still shine through, even if those years of thinking were spent in different dance genre all together.

In today’s Kitsuné-themed exclusive Holland’s …
