Jared blinked a few years back and became a photographer. He is still unsure if this was a painful accident or beautiful stroke of luck. Having spent the last 7 years working behind the scenes shooting djs in an effort to document the rise of club culture and the dj he has seen quite a few dance floors around the world. In his search he came across some amazing faces in the music such as Ron Carroll, Chris Samba, Louie Vega, Kaskade, Mfr, Dj Spinna, Robert Owens, The Rogue Traders, Kraftwerk, The Gorrilaz, Ben Watt and Chris Lum to name a few. Occasionally he has been able to corner a vocalist or two such as Kenny Bobien, Ultra Nate, and Barbara Tucker. All of them have left an indelible mark on him and his lens which has kept him going despite the early morning plane flights, late night taxis and empty wallets. I doubt he would trade any of it for the world. So when he is not writing for URB he is most likely stuck on a plane or hiding behind his camera in some dark club somewhere, anywhere in the world good dance music can be found. 13th Witness :: Art of Facts (Video)

13th Witness recently caught up with Futura at Futura Laboratories for a short film session.  What you get is a wicked short that focuses on cinematography as much as it does Futura.  Take a look and you’ll see just exactly how skilled each is in their own artistic fields.  13th uses the focal plane as deftly as Futura uses a can or marker.  Its insane, hands down rock solid beautiful art.  You get a good look at Futura’s style and just how well this man can write, draw, or sketch with any instrument of graf.

It is always good to see artistic homage paid back from the new school to the old school.  Mad respect to the both of you.  If you don’t know the work of 13th Witness I suggest you follow the link to his …

America’s Premier House Label :: Strictly Rhythm Turns 20 (Video)

In honor of Strictly Rhythm’s 20th birthday they are dropping 20 Years Remixed on February 1, 2010.  What can you say about such an amazing label that has done so much for the fabric of electronic music here in the US.  They have had ups and downs like everyone else but they have somehow shone through it all and are still on top with one of the most massive catalogues of quality house music. Below are just a few of the stellar tracks in their books.  What are your favs from the last 20 years?

Adidas Shows S.F. Some Skate Love (Video)

Is there a sport that Adidas doesn’t try and cover?  I must admit it does seem a bit strange that the iconic shoemaker has a skate team but one quick look at the clip and you’ll see that they don’t play.  When Adidas busts out a pair of Sambas for a North American dart tournament then I just might be in shock.  Peep Mr. Dassler’s crew, including Mark Gonzales, Benny Fairfax, Tim O’Connor, and Dave Bachinsky, reppin’ San Francisco large.

Spike Lee’s Posthumous Video for Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” (Video)

One of the downsides to 2009 was the amount of amazing musicians we lost.  Even if you only counted the last 6 months we have lost too many good people from our hearts and stereos, the most high profile of these being The King of Pop – Michael Jackson.  The event will most likely go down in our minds ranked up there with the falling of the Berlin Wall or the Twin Towers, the day the King of Pop fell.  Despite any feelings you had for the man, good or bad, you will have to answer questions about it in the future.  Five years from now you could be around a dinner table discussing what you where doing when these events happened.  15 years from now your children or grand children will ask you who he was or what it …

The Gaslamp Killer + Prefuse 73 start the New Year off right with tour

I think most of us have had a tumultuous year and are keen to start 2010 off on a good foot.  Sometimes said good foot can be a little difficult, it’s not as though the clock strikes midnight and all thoughts & problems vanish with the tick of a hand.  Thankfully we have people like The Mother F&%$ing Gaslamp Killer and Prefuse 73.  To help you start the year off right they have given you 15 US tour dates to head to.  Sometimes all that good foot needs is a dance floor… these two boys might know a little something about that. Word, that’s what I call a good start to the year.
