Salvador Santana knows a thing or two about music. Not just its past, present or even the direction in which it is going; rather, the keyboardist, vocalist, composer and songwriter knows, as an artist, how to steer clear of being boxed into any one genre and utilize his passion for music to its fullest potential. It was his father, Carlos Santana, who taught him at an early age to maximize his love of beautiful sounds. Sal’s musical background has led him to take a full-throttle approach toward what he feels will be pleasing to the ear; and his jazz, pop, Latin and hip-hop influences are apparent on his new album, Keyboard City.

If any New York rapper has put forth an enormous amount of work to create music throughout the past year, that person would have to be Donny Goines. The latest release from Donny Goines’ upcoming EP titled Rocksmith Tokyo & Donny Goines Presents 20X features the emcee unapologetically showing and proving why his grind is relentless. Producer M-Phazes has blessed the boards with a hardcore rock infused beat over which Goines has no problem speaking to the people.

Slum Village could arguably be The Temptations of the modern hip-hop era. Three marvelously talented lyricists stunned audiences, producers and rappers alike with their talents, however mounting tensions and personal issues surrounding late group member Baatin led to his leaving the band in 2002 to pursue a solo career. Celebrated producer Jay-Dee (largely known as J-Dilla) passed away in 2006, and the group introduced a new bandmate, Elzhi. Within a span of eight years, Detroit’s beloved underground kings have witnessed the passing of two members and a close friend, D12’s Proof. Through it all, T3 has stood strong, and maintained his love for Slum Village, and most of all, music.
