New Edan Project : Echo Party!

It’s been a minute, but your favorite oddball-psychadelic-hip-hop-nerd-MC-producer-DJ extraordinaire returns!

Edan was given full access to Traffic Entertainment’s back catalogue, meaning he had a treasure chest of old-school vinyl to pick from.  What was gonna be a simple mixtape turned into Echo Party— a 30 minute opus replete with studio tricks, turntablism, tape echo, moog, guitar, and even kazoo.  Featuring old-school rap, punk and dance, Echo Party is dense, wierd, and most of all, REALLY ORIGINAL and REALLY FUN!

This comes out next week on CD and LP.  The CD comes with a book detailing every miniscule technique used; The vinyl (limited 1000 press) boasts Edan hand-drawing each cover.  This comes out next week, pre-order it now. They’re almost gone!

Gift of Gab – Escape 2 Mars (Review)

Gift of Gab (the rapping half of Blackalicious) drops dizzying rhymes on Escape 2 Mars, the Bay Area MC’s second solo album.  The 11 tracks cover three main themes: travel, futurism, and a mindfulness of our planet.  Gab isn’t preachy at all, instead using the solo spotlight to showcase various cadences and subject matter that transcend typical battle raps.  Everything here--like his entire songbook pretty much--is delivered with presence and vigor.  The production, helmed by Hednodic and DNAEBEATS, uses more effects and keyboards than what you’d usually find Gab on as part of Blackalicious. For every ...

New Jack Splash Mixtape! (MP3)

Jack Splash doesn’t bother with the confines of genres.  By working with everyone in the biz (he’s in the lab with Alicia Keys and Jamie Foxx at the moment) he’s added his take on R&B, hip-hop, rock, pop and just about anything the in-demand singer/songwriter wants.

Even with the dense schedule, Splash squeezed some signature funk onto Heir To The Throne Vol. 1, a new mixtape courtesy of DJ Skee and The Smoking Section. Enjoy!

New Dirty Bastard! (MP3)

Next week, Message To The Other Side- Osirus Part 1, will mark the return of ODB via 21 tracks produced by Wu-stalwarts and affiliates.  The project (presumably the first of a few) also comes with a 20-minute DVD.

For now, here’s a somewhat ironic first track that just leaked:  “Say No”, where ODB is telling kids to stay away from drugs. Wu IS kid friendly!

Listen to “Say No” by ODB off Message To The Other Side- Osirus Part 1, in stores November 17th.
