Japanese emcee Kaigen, who has earned props courtesy everyone from Chuck D to Project Blowed for his light speed flow, has a new album out featuring guest shots from Sole, Myka 9, 2Mex, Awol One and Ceschi along with production from the likes of Jel (anticon) and Thavius Beck. Kaigen uses his platform to speak on a variety of social ills and the importance of hope. Lest his message be lost in translation, Re: bloomer comes complete with transcribed lyrics. Ceschi contributes a powerful chorus and elastic, fiery verse to the Shunsuke Endo-directed clip for “Gold Lining,” which you can check out below.
As Bleubird awaits the ripple effects of his Fake Four debut Cannonball!!!, set to drop next Tuesday, folk rap O.G. Ceschi lends an assist to the inspirational lyricism and melody of “Time 4real.” The new record, which was produced by labelmate Astronautalis and Radical Face, finds Bleubird at the most focused and well-rounded stage of his career. A road warrior at his core, Bleubird’s work reflects an anchor-free philosophy and succinctly captures moments in time across vast terrains. Those in Europe can catch the nomadic emcee live for the next six weeks alongside Astronautalis.
Fake Four beatsmiths Blue Sky Black Death have teamed up once again with Raised By Wolves and Pacific Northwest emcee Nacho Picasso for the full length Lord of the Fly. The 13 track effort is an intriguing juxtapostion of BSBD’s lush atmospherics against Nacho’s punchline-laden delivery. “Naked Lunch,” the first video released from the project, finds Nacho channeling his inner-Raoul Duke on a savage journey to the heart of escapism. Lest you think Nacho is simply crafting another drug rap anthem, the clip closes out with a fitting Dr. Johnson quote that any Fear & Loathing fan will instantly recognize: “He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man.”
Lord of the Fly is available for free download on Bandcamp.
Last week, Strange Famous Records released “Film The Police,” the first single from B. Dolan’s House of Bees Vol. II mixtape. The song is a blistering political anthem featuring label boss Sage Francis, Toki Wright of Rhymesayers, activist/rap journalist Jasiri X and UK crate digger Buddy Peace.
“Film The Police,” pays tribute to N.W.A.’s infamous “Fuck The Police,” and serves as a call to action for the digitized media movement while responding to the recent explosion of police brutality all across the world.
Since it’s release, the video has logged close to 70,000 views in seven days, and earned an incredible number of co-signs from folks like Michael Moore, folk singer/activist Billy Bragg, Killer Mike, Jay Smooth, and countless others. The song has also been picked up and retweeted by Anonymous Central and a number of international #Occupy accounts, making it one of the first popular anthems of this year’s definitive movement.
