Alex Chapman isn't any ordinary 19 year-old. While his colleagues had always seemed content with the standard life of a Chicago high schooler, Alex’s love for the arts had always driven him to desire much more. Having started in the music business at the early age of 16, Alex has already worked at such respected companies as The Windish Agency, Rolling Stone, and URB Magazine, to name a few. With an established passion for the music business entact, Alex began interviewing artists via URB two years ago, when he acted as their official correspondent for Lollapalooza. Talking with popular indie outfits like Chairlift, Friendly Fires and Lykke Li, Alex was quickly bitten by the interviewing bug. Now living in New York, the NYU freshman has taken his abilities to the next level, creating his own interviewing entity (with the help of branding geniuses @AtSuperfun) aptly entitled “The Real Alex Chapman”. In addition, Alex has very recently landed an editorial apprenticeship at the illustrious Paper Magazine, and continues to write for URB regularly. "I think the world of mainstream media is under the impression that they have to pre-package everything as simplistically as possible in order for the consumer to get it," says Alex, who is now based in the Greenwich Village area. "But the reality is that there are large groups of people, especially young people, who are smarter than that, and who really want to get to know these artists as musicians, and as human beings. I came to the quick realization that there was nobody out there really talking to these artists in a relatable way. Upon coming to that conclusion, I went straight to work.” Having already interviewed artists like Skrillex, Wiz Khalifa, Matt and Kim, Soulja Boy, Semi Precious Weapons, Keri Hilson and a host of others in a matter of 2.5 months, the project is already off to a strong start. And with an ever-improving production crew and a immense number of acts slated for interviews in 2011, it seems as though Alex Chapman is destined to be far more than just your average kid.

Concert Review: Deadmau5 (Video)

Deadmau5, aka Joel Zimmerman, the DJ-producer extraordinaire who dons a gigantic mouse head for every performance, is known for his amazing live shows…and the gigantic mouse head. Last night, the Mau5 came through Chicago to perform at the Congress Theatre, and he did not disappoint. Armed with a light show that can only be described as spectacular, Deadmau5 had the crowd in the palm of his hand with every bump of bass and scream of synth. Running through various rhythms and spinning his more signature cuts, such as “Ghosts N Stuff” and “Arguru”, Zimmerman even paid tribute to electronic royalty Daft Punk by sampling “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.” One of the most progressive dance artists out there, Deadmau5 was in full affect last evening, and it truly felt like a privilege to see him play.
