Montreal pop outfit Winter Gloves are hitting the road hard these next couple of months to spread the word on their newest album, All Red (out on Paperbag Records on September 7th). They’ll be traveling across the northern border and hitting some dates with WARP lads Born Ruffians. Deadmau5 Collapses In DC From Exhaustion, Cancels Nine Shows (Video)

Ah, exhaustion. It’s that special kind of debilitating syndrome reserved for our celebrities when their privileged lives simply become too much. Dance music superstar hit just such a wall this weekend while performing at 9:30 Club in DC. The rave rodent collapsed while performing and was taken to an area hospital. No word if pal Tommie Lee was in the vicinity.

Love Parade Tragedy May Be a Teaching Moment, Not a Cause for Permanent Cancellation: Can We Harness the Fight or Flight Syndrome?


Firstly, an apology for not listing the names of the deceased, which have still not been announced. URB’s editorial staff and our readers extend our deepest sympathy and respect to the friends and families of the deceased. It has always been our belief that what is best in the culture we fell in love with so long ago and which we’ve defended for two decades, can serve humanity at large, and the tragic, wholly avoidable deaths in Germany can serve as the touchstone for a new kind of festival ethos. We’ve watched this festival grow up, and the images of joy from Germany have filled many of our editions. The silencing of The Love Parade saddens us and it hurts our culture, now matured and splintered, yet still vibrant and in so many ways larger than we ever imagined, and for this, there must be ethical stewardship by artists, promoters and individuals.  Herewith, a personal editorial on the possible future of The Love Parade. …MORE

2010’s Best Albums So Far

Blame the internet and it’s obsession with lists that just declaring “Best Of”once a year is no longer enough. Still, given the far shortened attention span of most of the music heads we know these days, perhaps taking stock twice-yearly of our favorite albums isn’t the worst thing in the world. Besides, no matter when you take stock, a great record always deserves a first, second or third listen.
