Several thousand records, said to have belonged to the late J Dilla, have been found in a storage locker in the Detroit suburb of Clinton Township and are being sold at a local record store, according to the Detroit News.
Jeff Bubeck, co-owner of UHF Records in Royal Oak, MI told the news that he found 7000-8000 records in an abandoned storage locker, along with cassette tapes labeled “Jaydee Beats” and junk mail addressed to James Yancey. While the name was not familiar to Bubeck, a quick Google search reveled the potential treasure trove he had unearthed. UHF has begun selling the records in the store, with a yellow sticker pointing out which of the used vinyl came from this special collection.
Bubeck says he has reached out to both Stones Throw Records and the J Dilla Foundation, but has not received a reply from the latter. In the meantime, those looking for a dusty Earth, Wind and Fire LP with possible historical significances can visit UHF Records.
