Last year Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 released From Africa With Fury: Rise, a Brian Eno produced album that won him the Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From the Tree Award.

After a string of firey performances alongside members of his father’s band at SXSW and Coachella, Seun has released a remix EP with a stellar cast of producers: Ron Trent, Jacques Renault, JD Twitch, Falty DL, and Spoek Mathambo.

Jacques Renault’s deep dub take on Slave Masters is marked by copious congos weaving throughout 9 surprisingly restrained minutes of funk. Heavily delayed and panned vocals are accented by Seun’s wailing sax and pad swells that quiver with feedback, instilling even the track’s most inorganic sounds with a Fela-esque element of rhythmic unpredictability.
