Punky and island-influenced in their incarnation as a seven-piece, London-based act Crystal Fighters are also somewhat known for a slew of remixes they’ve contributed to. Wether its their clap-laden, pared-down treatment of Two Door Cinema Club‘s guitar pop or the emphasized baila funke tinges on their approach to CSS‘ “Let’s Reggae All Night”, the Fighters take great pains to secure that their ventures away from the strictly “rock” genre are worthy of the same compliments that once had them called “the single most exciting show in dance music” (high praise if you ask us!).
Featuring everything from remixes and original tracks by mirrorball masters like Jacques Renault and Todd Terje to strict techno concoctions by Eliphino and Miike Snow, the band’s new mixtape, dubbed “Dreams of Disco” proves that they are, even in a less alternative context, as open-minded and unique as they are extremely versatile. Seemingly aimed at making you feel uplifted and perhaps even open up your own viewing scope a bit, the compilation already has us swaying from side to side and even cheering the Fighters on a bit every time we queue up to replay the set.
