Looking back on Gorillaz 2010 album, Plastic Beach, the high point of the album is still 68-year-old soul singer Bobby Womack‘s appearance on the lead single, “Stylo.” You shoulda heard the crowd go wild after his verse when the band appeared on the Colbert Report. So we’re more than a little enthused by the news that Womack has a new solo album coming out, produced by—guess who—Damon Albarn. Albarn is joined by XL Recordings head, Richard Russell, himself know slouch in the producer chair (Vampire Weekend, Gil Scott-Heron). The record, titled The Bravest Man In the Universe, also features Lana Del Rey‘s guest vocals on the song “Dayglo Reflection.” Listening to the soulful twitter-step ballad that is the first single, “Please Forgive My Heart,” we can see how that pairing might work.
