If you’re the type to get a little fried out from the electronic buzzsaws and overcompressed kick drums that’ve been so popular as of late, you’re not only not alone but are also pining for just the type of spirit-boosting bliss that Permanent Vacation darlings Midnight Magic have come up with on their treatment of Australia’s newest export Panama. Formed from the vestiges of former Muse opening act The Dirty Secrets, Panama’s otherwise Afro-funk sound gets down right celestial on this 80′s workout version of their first single, appropriately entitled, “Magic“.
Bouncey and light the remix genuinely soars as the vocals, enveloped in a deep groove and digital xylophones, are moved from their originally condensed, Erik Broucek-produced (Holy Ghost!, !!!, Eleanor Friedberg) sway to a dreamy, decidedly more light-hearted elevation. The whole track, uplifting, and reminding of an impending spring renewal, is a potent antidote for anyone’s case of the winter blues, if you happen to be experiencing those, along with that mind-crushing case of Harshattackia.
So be sad no more. Float away by experiencing the sounds embedded within the link below and pick up Magic online and in stores when Panama self-releases the original version of their single on March 2nd.
