For three long weekends in January, thousands of bundled-up partiers made their way down to Montreal’s Old Port for the sixth installment of the Igloofest festival. Like its summer counterparts Mutek and Piknic Electronik, the festival was strategically planned out in order to draw a huge, diverse crowd for each night. Although starting a night at 6:30pm doesn’t tend to turn out well for anyone, it meant that concertgoers had a fighting chance of surviving Montreal’s sometimes unbearable nighttime winter temperatures, and they could still take public transit home from the venue afterwards which otherwise would have been too far to venture out to. For one glorious month, everyone shared the unspoken understanding that it was totally acceptable to show up to a bar after Igloofest in your most unbecoming winter garb. The month’s line-up included names like A-Trak, Mala, French Fries, Bambounou, Pearson Sound, Maya Jane Coles & more, and this is our recap for all those who opted to spend their January safely indoors.
