Three is the magic number, but there’s plenty of magic in De La duo First Serve’s first video, “Must Be The Music.” The pair’s sound is easily reminiscent of early De La Soul, combining ’70s funk and disco with Golden Era hip-hop. And where is Maseo you might ask? We dunno, but French producers 2 & 4 (aka Chokolate & Khalid) do a bang-up job evoking Prince Paul’s brilliant style from 3 Feet High and Rising. Not much more to say except this is what party rap used to sound like.
