A finger isn’t a nipple and M.I.A. certainly isn’t Janet Jackson, but that’s the main (non-)controversy coming out of last night’s Superbowl Halftime show. While performing with Madonna and Nicki Minaj, the UK singer made the artistic decision to give the camera (and about 100,000,000 people) the middle finger. Why? “Adrenalin” is being named as the culprit, according to M.I.A.’s camp.
Watch the performance after the jump.
The NFL and NBC immediately apologized for the incident, no doubt recalling the sort of fracas and fines that followed the infamous “wardrobe malfunction.” M.I.A. herself also apologized via her proxies, making her more Timberlake than Miss Jackson.
All this aside, the star of the show was still Madonna, who was also joined by guests LMFAO and Ceelo, the latter who wrapped up the 12 minutes performance of greatest hits joining the Material Girl on a soulful “Like A Prayer.” Hey, didn’t that song have some controversy 20 years ago? Still, great ’80s disco beat.
