While 2011 was heavily saturated with material from inexperienced young producers, 2012 already has a lot to offer in terms of releases from seasoned producers that are well worth waiting for. Goth-Trad (real name Takeaki Maruyama) has been producing since 1998, but this February will see the release of his debut full-length entitled New Epoch on the Deep Medi label, headed by Mala of Digital Mystikz.
Despite being halfway across the world from the hotbed of all things ‘bass’ in the UK, Goth-Trad emerged from experimental beginnings in Japan’s underground electronic scene and has soldiered onwards, exploring dubstep from a fascinating new perspective and pushing it forward. Hyperdub boss Kode9 describes him as “a one-man army mutating the UK hardcore continuum in Japan,” and the strength of his debut affirms his talent. The album reflects a decade of experience both producing and DJing across genres, as well as being heavily influenced by the earthquake that devastated Japan in March of 2011.
Below, you can view the official video for the first single off the album, Airbreaker, out January 30th, and you can listen to the official preview of the single.
