Diplo Disses Coachella

We’ve lost track of how many times Diplo has appeared on the Coachella stage over the year, first as tour DJ for M.I.A. in 2006, and at least once with his own act, Major Lazer. Throw in at least one solo DJ set in 2008, and you’d think he’d be a pretty big fan of the annual festival. Apparently he’s a bigger fan of talking trash on Twitter, like he did yesterday when he tweeted: “

“Maybe I’m just throwing shade but ‘Coachsmella’ looks pretty lame this year. You used to be a place to check out new bands/music.

“Besides Snoop and Dre that’s boss shit right there. Its like bootleg Ultra with a few bands that are safe.”

The tweet has been deleted, but what do you think? Is “Coachsmella” not cool anymore because Diplo said so?

I think Diplo is forgetting that for a lot of people who don’t have their finger on the pulse of music, Coachella is still going to be a place for them to discover new music. It’s kinda hard to surprise Santa Claus at Christmas.

Um..he headlined TAO last week and he’s talkin’ tough? lmfao XD

  3. hes like the tiesto of breaks… Who gives a shit….. Plus coachella is a music art festival not a rave….. Maybe he needs more disco biscuits.

I’m excited for the younger artist that are on the lineup. But it does feel like they are riding the wave of electronic music heavy this year.

So, we’re supposed to trust the tastes and opinions of a guy who shills for Blackberry, the epitome of downward spiraling relevance? Ok.

As much respect as I have for Diplo I couldn’t disagree more. Coachella has always been a good representation of the music that’s out there in the states; no doubt that has become more electronic in the last few years, so that leaves us with Swedish House and David Guetta. Still have some great bands playing large stages (ATDI??), just a lot more electronic to go into the mix.

well, i love coachella but the lineup this year wasnt really great to me. there are some dope beatmakers / uk garage and fringe dubstep / house artists, but otherwise, the lineup sure looks like a whole lot of hype.
