Red Bull Thre3style Heat 4 Recap and Thoughts (Video)

With the end of the world finals looming in the horizon, the contestants for heat 4, were definitely in a league of their own.  Bearing witness to the three previous heats, it was noticeable that the 5 remaining DJs were working to make sure that the judges and crowd were left in a heap of sweat and their ears begging for more.

The international suspects for the night included SUPA! from France and the previous year’s winners protege, DJ Byte hailing from Chile, Peru’s Thomas Young, DJ Spell from New Zealand, and the US champ, Big Once.  Despite strong showings for the night, the crowd made it no secret who their favorites were — France’s SUPA! and the United States’ Big Once.

Comparing the two sets was very much an ‘apples and oranges’ situation.  SUPA! brought the flavor of the bouncy in-your-face style that was physically characterized by the way he rocked the table; Big Once, on the other hand brought a set that was equal parts battle set, party set, and played the role of ‘American Villain.’  The irony of the situation, as stated by DJ Flip Out, the night’s host, was that the crowd saw him as the ‘DJ they loved to hate,’ but he was in fact the most laid back of the DJ’s on hand.   It was a tough call for the judges to make, but ultimately the night belonged to SUPA!, although judging by the crowd’s reaction afterwards, a wild card berth for Big Once was definitely on the horizon — though that’s a story for another day.

In the meantime, check the break for selected sets and a highlight reel for the night.  Also, stay tuned for the full video sets for a few of the sets you see here.
