Cleveland-born, Los Angeles-based producer/drummer Jovan ‘J-1′ Coleman has passed away in Sweden. Coleman was a regular on the LA beat scene, most notably performing as one-third of Dam-Funk’s Master Blazters. He also released a series of beat tapes and podcast for Montreal-LA live art/music collective and gallery HVW8.

Some terrible news tonight, we’ve just heard that J-1, drummer of Dam-Funk’s Master Blazter passed away yesterday. Dam released this statement on his Facebook page:

“At this time we send our most deepest condolences 2 the family & friends of J-1/Jovan Coleman, who passed in Sweden.

Details on his passing are not available at this time. Just know that our brother will be missed deeply.
