The new album is a complete re-envisioning of his March debut “In Case I Don’t Make It” and features production from Exile, J-Zone, Oddisee, Kev Brown, Eric Lau, Apollo Brown and others. “Light Years” is J-Zone’s vision of the track “Kinetic Energy.” J-Zone (who just released his book “Root for the Villain: Rap, Bullshit, and a Celebration of Failure“) stirs the music from a swirling mass of potential into kinetic blend of cries, screams, stomps, crashes, drums, and bass that Has-Lo bombs over like Hasan Izz-Al-Din. Has-Lo proceeds to stroll through his worldview, spitting politics and social commentary in the vernacular of the gods. It is eclectic, melodic, chaotic, bleak and brutal all at once.
