If you’re surprised that today’s best electronic mastermind is turning out to be the person you’ve always thought of as “the girl next door”, don’t be. Trust a girl here when she says we’ve long been waiting for our turn to prove that we’re as good, if not better, at programming and producing a soft-synth. Following in a burgeoning tradition of ladies innovating society out of the dying sphere of sequencers (see: everything from Miss Kittin’ to Mum), Ghostly International’s in-house nightlife guru Moderna, real name: Missy Livingston, releases the third in a series of fantastically-curated DJ mixes right here on URB.
Featuring everything from Poker Flat Record’s current best asset TJ Kong to Ghostly’s own signee Tycho, Moderna seems to have paid attention to almost everything going on in the digital realm today as well as pumped up the emphasis on grooves (hard stuff to do when cutting tracks together) and excellent vocals. The mix really is splendid, and I’m not just saying that because I’m impressed with her list of credits (which include starting San Diego’s legendary Re:Up Mag), so click over to Soundcloud to hear what all this fuss is about. Lack of disappointment is positively assured!
