Throughout his decade-long career, Eliot Lipp has explored various ends of the beat spectrum for labels such as Eastern Developments, Hefty, Metatronix, and Mush. From his earliest instrumental hip-hop recordings, produced on a collection of mostly-broken gear in Chicago, to his years in New York spent facinated with the more obtruse side of techno and constant touring that has found him playing for seasoned beatheads and college-aged dance fans alike, Lipp always surprises folks with the catchiness of his clever recordings.
Lipp’s most recent efforts, a collaboration with childhood friend Jasia 10, find him going back to his crate-digging roots. The pair are getting ready to release an album, How We Do : Moves Made, on Lipp’s own Old Tacoma Records, named after the hometown where the pair first bonded. This week’s URB podcast offers a special mix of tunes that inspired the album, along with two unreleased tracks from Lipp himself.
