New Plug Research Signee, French producer/musician Astrobal, is releasing his EP Poetry & Science-Fiction today. “He reminds us of the feeling we had when we signed Dntel,” says label owner, Allen Avanessian. Borrowing influences from Francois Truffaut and Phillip Dick, Astrobal’s new project is a “mix between fiction and true reality, between space and everyday life, relationship and imagination.”
Growing up in France, Astrobal (aka Emanuel Mario) was surrounded by sounds ranging from Neil Young to Kraftwerk. As a young, budding musician, Emanuel’s music landed in the hands of Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab. Laetitia fell in love with Emanuel’s whispered vocals and hazy synthesizers and soon the two began working together on compositions. Emanuel, now equipped with a new level of confidence, decided to focus on his own writing and Poetry & Science-Fiction was born.
