Stevie Wonder: Legendary! A 40-year veteran of the music industry and he’s here at our humble little festival. I can check something off my bucket list – I saw Stevie Wonder in concert. Hearing him however was another matter. Those close enough to the stage were treated to a an amazing mix of old hits and classic covers. I and so many hundreds strained to hear the surprisingly low-volume drowned out by chatty drunk frat boys and My Morning Jacket songs from across the park. This issue prompted the crowd to chant unanimously “Turn it up! Turn it up!” their pleas ignored by the sound board.
Mr. Wonder came out jamming the key-tar to hits like “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” and “Higher Ground” before launching into some political ranting about the economy, slavery and party politics. It was a strange contrast to his uplifting and pristine masterpieces. Overall, a slight disappointment due to sound issues, but still a legendary, epic and memorable show. Your move, Arcade Fire!
