Radiohead Saturation :: SNL, Colbert, Live Shows

Radiohead is planning a busy end of September in New York City next week. The to-do list starts on Saturday when the group will appear on the season premier of Saturday Night Live, which should lead to some pretty left-leaning conversations backstage with host Alec Baldwin.

Next comes an appearance on The Colbert Report on September 26, which will mark the first time the program will be extended to an hour in length to allow the group to perform four songs, and in the words of Stephen Colbert, “I look forward to meeting the Radioheads and leveraging their anti-corporate indie cred to raise brand awareness for my sponsors.”

Finally just announced is two intimate shows at New York’s Roseland Ballroom that will take place on September 28th and 29th.

Apparently Thom Yorke and company plan to test the old adage that NewYork is the city that never sleeps.

Check out Radiohead’s last appearance on SNL in 2000 performing “Idioteque,” easily one of the best musical best in the history of the show, as you can tell by the crowd cheering at the end. The clip is so well protected by NBC lawyers that you can only find it on weird Russian bootleg websites. And click here to watch them perform “National Anthem” from the same show because we can’t figure out how to find the embed code in Japanese.
