New York City’s Blind Benny is serving up their own contribution to today’s evolution in sound. Formerly outfitted as Jade <3 (after the lead singer), the rock/pop duo recently revamped their image as Blind Benny to expand the portrait they had began painting long ago. The result of that change? Songs that “hit hard” and an overall resonance similar to that of “an ethnically confused Foo Fighters that at any time could free fall into an incomparable folksy melody supporting lyrics that walk all over you.”
But perhaps the most striking quality of Blind Benny’s is Jade’s voice itself. She’s got this mesmerizing vocal timbre (similar to that of Nelly Furtado’s) that draws you in from first listen. Va$htie called it “haunting and strangely sweet,” while Honey Mag referred to Blind Benny as “most likely to soothe love’s yearning with righteous penmanship and vocals” back in 2009.
