Typically, we like to shine a bit of a critical light on events such as EDC, mixing the best with the worst in an attempt to make things even better. But Electric Daisy Carnival has had plenty of “worsts” over the past 12 months, and with nothing but good things being reported from the event’s first foray into Las Vegas (after basicaly being kicked out of their LA home), we decided to just jot down the things that floated our boat. We’ll leave the complaints about long lines to someone else.
AFROJACK

If there was one DJ who encapsulated the zeitgeist of EDC’s underground-meets-mainstream vibe this year, it was Holland’s Afrojack. The DJ played twice over the weekend to accommodate fans, but it was his main stage turn Saturday night that will live on in the memories of fans.
Like a roller coaster ride, the DJ born Nick van de Wall offered up dizzying drops, smooth-coasting rolls and everything in between Operating more like a novelist than a DJ, he employed foreshadowing; teasing tracks that he would spin later in his set (everything from Daft Punk tunes to neo-“rave” anthems such as Laidback Luke’s “Turbulence”) to great effect. The entire set was made of win; with the highlight being the DJ’s own “Take Over Control,” which tens of thousands sang along with under a starry sky.
