R.I.P Darryl Pandy

Darryl Pandy

Legendary house and church vocalist Darryl Pandy has passed away as was confirmed today by both TRAX Records and Chicago 5 Magazine. Over the past few years stories of Darryl in the hospital had become more prevalent and unfortunately today the news was confirmed of his passing by Farley Jackmaster Funk.

Darryl is notoriously known for “Love Can’t Turn Around”, a song that became a top of the charts in places like the UK, twice. Darryl’s voice later became synonymous with his work done by Farley Jackmaster Funk and captivated mainly the underground dance scenes. As a performer Darryl was best known for shrieking and yelling in the middle of a performance or stopping the music midway because he had become exhausted. As the years went on his performance may have become a bit slower but the voice that chanted and squealed never went.

In honor of Darryl, TRAX Records has announced that all digital download proceeds of “Love Can’t Turn Around” will go towards Darryl Pandy’s family.

  1. [...] An extremely sad time for the house community as we lost two stars in a single day.  Darryl Pandy, a singer from Chicago passed away after several months of being seriously ill.  While his strong, 6-octave, gospel-bred vocals could be found across many house records, “Love can’t turn around” (with Farley Jackmaster Funk) was undoubtedly one of his finest moments.  See tributes by 5 Magazine, Plain & Simple, and URB.
