OK, Jamie XX’s “Far Nearer” has been circulating in one form or another for over a year, but the b-side, “Beat For,” is brand new to these ears, and well worth the wait. The tune is more morose than “Far Nearer’s” almost glitchy tropicalia, which might actually appeal more to Jamie’s day job with The xx (although he’s been on hiatus so long we’re starting to wonder if the threesome is gonna get it together for album #2).
The “Far Nearer” / “Beat For” single is out today on Glasgow-based Numbers label. But you can hear both tunes right here. The packaging is a new colorway design from the Gil-Scott Heron remix album, We’re New Here, that came out this past spring.
