“…Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die…”
Ah Hunter, where are you now. A self-inflicted shotgun blast cured you of all the world’s misery but left some of us wondering where to turn. There’s always love and romance. And those things never turn sour.
This single/video from two-man toxic avenger team High Powered Mutants (Gary Gnu & IAMISEE) is something special. Directed by IAM, featuring the haunting Feist-y vocals of Ay Vurma, the song somehow affirms life after a fated tango of two hearts intertwined. One of those hearts often remains true while the other buckles under the pressure and leaves the steadfast heart down in a dirty twisted basement filled with regret, swearing vengeance.
Both verses offer strong narratives with each MC telling a tale of a seemingly wicked woman; and sorry ladies we love you but some of you get away with murder, we know you deal with the weight of emotions/hormones that us menfolk could never fathom but when that rare good man comes along and swears to hold you down through it all and you turn your back on him, well, the Lords of Karma are coming for that ass. Yes, I’ll take some Gruyere with my Wine.
While borrowing stylistically from such classic movies as The Shining, Seven, Delicatessen, Barton Fink & Poltergeist, the visuals here are unique, interweaving artful CGI with stark mise en scene.
This is the first single from the Mutants’ forthcoming album Well Oiled Machine, look for it wherever you buy music in these reportedly apocalyptic times.
