The HiFi Cartel is doing things big once again; as if their previous venture into bass wasn’t enough, the collective have outdone themselves by presenting an event showcasing one of the most historic and iconic labels in electronic music history. The famed and revived R&S Records will be showcasing the likes of The Chain, a rare DJ set from Brainmath artist Airhead, and of course, electronic music’s current crossover sensation, James Blake, in his FIRST EVER DJ set on Stateside soil. While some people know Blake for his emotive vocally-driven productions, he returns to his roots this time around, representing his past, present and future history as a producer in the bass world as well as previous occupation, being a great DJ. More info on the event, where to buy tickets and where it’s at after the jump.
While also serving as a post-gig event for James Blake’s gig at The Bowery Ballroom, this is a rare look into the world of the label that catapulted the previous releases of Blake, as well as legendary releases from timeless producers (Aphex Twin, Joey Beltram, Jaydee and Moby to name a few) from the mid-90s. Whilst James will be DJing for the first time ever in the US, Airhead will also step out of the shadows to take his place behind the decks. With an upcoming album coming out on the ever-strange-yet-wonderful Brainmath label, Airhead is truly in a world of his own, sound-wise; almost one with the sounds of the Earth, his sound is ambient, ambivalent and reflective of his influences, as well as a welcome change of pace from current bass producers. Also joining them on the bill is R&S artist The Chain, who has a reputation of playing sets that are straight-forward, timeless house and techno saturation.
The event will be held at Tamanny Hall, May 11th. Doors are 11PM, be there early as space is extremely limited. You can buy tickets HERE or check out the info down below on the flier for more tidbits.

It’s safe to say it’s going to be a long night full of amazing music and moments.
Special thanks to HiFi, R&S.
