Richie Hawtin has spent much of the past year touring the globe as his newly revived Plastikman guise, hitting five of the seven continents with his legendary minimal techno. But with the exception of Coachella and Movement 2010, North American fans have had to patiently wait for their turn to experience the interactive visual and audio experiment that defines this ’90s achetype in the new Millenium. Now there’s another chance, as Montreal’s Mutek Festival has announced that Hawtin will headline the event as Plastikman, along with performers Modeselektor, Amon Tobin, Four Tet and James Holden.
The appearance marks Hawtin’s first appearance as Plastikman in his home-country of Canada since a single 2003 appearance at Mutek, an aborted attempt to re-hatch techno’s Imp of the Perverse as a multi-media experience, which, in typical Hawtin fashion, was too far ahead of the technology of the time.
