The Road Warrior takes a surprising turn from the first night out.

Mary Anne Hobbs graces us with the debut entry of her Road Warrior tour diary; depicting her first night in the Pacific Northwest, which almost led to her being behind bars?! More info from the first lady of bass after the jump.

ROAD WARRIOR Tour Diary for URB

PART 1

6AM in Seattle. 3 hours sleep. Examining the random bruising all over my body. This is standard on the road. You develop all kinds of strange markings that cannot be accounted for. By the end of the tour I’ll look like you’ve done 8 rounds with Randy “The Ram”.

Still at least we’re not in jail…The Seattle Police Department spared us arrest for bass-related misdemeanours up at the Baltic Room last night.

All over the word it seems, there’s a breed of rarified asshole that will buy into bohemian areas, and then willfully try to shut down every club.

In this case it’s alleged that the noise compliant came from gentleman who recently acquired a new residence just a couple of doors down from the club – an astounding oversight on his part – given that his company, it is said, actually produces Decibel Meters.

It’s merciful that I have such an enchanting agent, Sara, or it could have all ended in tears and/or behind bars. Still, much love and maximum respect to Sean from Decibel, to all the Seattle massive with us last night, and to my touring partners TAKE, Lorn and Gonjasufi who were magnificent, despite the sonic prohibition.

We’re now getting ready to roll down the West Coast to play in San Francisco with Kode9, Roska and Joy Orbison at 103 Harriet on Friday night. Then it’s out to the desert to the mighty Coachella Festival at the weekend for a bloody round with Sam XL’s Pure Filth rig!

I’ll check back soon…

  1. Jake says:

Next time in Seattle, be sure not to get booked at a half-rate club that’s trying to play in the big leagues. There are plenty of other Seattle clubs that have their act together and can accommodate your show.

  2. Absolutely amazing show last night. Despite the fact that you were completely hamstrung by whomever the idiot is that moved nearby and filed a noise complaint. That guy is in for some serious headaches with all the events at Baltic Room.

Thank you for coming out Mary Anne! A stellar set and a lot of sounds I’ll be researching. Lorn was absolutely other-worldly. I loved it when he kicked his set off by hushing the crowd and stating “My name’s Lorn. I’m not from where you’re from.” Gonjasufi was stunning to watch. Was so glad I got to shake his hand and thank him for his amazing album.
