When you spend much of your adult life interviewing electronic music producers, you learn that pretty much every single one of them has the same ambition—making music for movies. Maybe it’s because so much definitive electron music of the past we designed for that purpose (Vangelis’ score for Blade Runner is almost always mentioned). Or maybe at some point, movie music seems like a mature next step after a few decades spent up all night in sweaty clubs with people half your age. Whatever the reason, it seems like the generation of ’90s electronica acts who have been rocking dance floors for close to 20 years are finally getting their big chance to have a go at soundtrack-making. First with Daft Punk’s much anticipated soundtrack for TRON:Legacy, and now the less hyped but equally interesting Chemical Brothers music for the movie, Hanna, the story of a 16-year-old girl trained to be an assasin by her father. Granted, this isn’t a blockbuster Disney holiday tent pole of a film, ut with Joe Wright (The Soloist, Pride and Prejudice) directing, and Cate Blanchett as one of the films stars, this ain’t exactly an art film either.
You can stream the soundtrack (which comes out on iTunes tomorrow) on MySpace.
