After nine months of controversy, LA’s Electric Daisy Carnival has announced that it will not be returning to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as scheduled in June. In a press release, promoters Insomniac said that the events 13-year run in Los Angeles has been “postponed” due to an inability to secure the proper contracts needed to produce the event in a timely manner.
“Without an executed contract in place at this time, it has become impossible to guarantee to all of the fans and talent that EDC can be produced at this venue this year,” said Insomniac CEO Pasquale Rotella in the release. “We are grateful for all of the events we’ve been able to produce at the Coliseum and Sports Arena over the years, and for the support of the fans, Los Angeles, the Coliseum Commission and everyone who has contributed to those events.”
Instead of the Coliseum, Insomniac announced that they will be throwing a two-day event on June 24 and 25, 2011 in Las Vegas, with more details forthcoming.
Electric Daisy Carnival had grown into America’s largest dance music festival, with nearly 200,000 attendees over two days at the Coliseum in June of 2010. But the event was marred with security concerns, as well as the ecstacy overdose of 15-year-old attendee. The ensuing hoopla resulted in the formation of the Los Angeles County Rave Taskforce, which spent the fall addressing concerns over the event, from drug education for attendees to policing and crowd control issues. In the meanwhile, a select group of politicians and media outlets sought to capitalize on the event’s notoriety—from attempting to pass laws limiting rave events, to criticizing the harm reduction messaging being put out by the County Health Dept. at subsequent dance music events. Local alternative paper LA Weekly even ran an extremely harsh cover story in December titled “Death, Money and Megaraves” (we choose not to link to the article since traffic is what the bastards want).

um..
or like Fiona Ma’s AB74, which would have put a $10k fine on anyone holding an event of 3.5+ hrs of “prerecorded music.”

although, yea, i really think it would have forced DJs to either die off like bitches or step their games up like bosses.
i guess, it’s fitting that it’s in LV now?
Because censorship sucks… http://www.laweekly.com/2010-12-30/news/death-money-and-megaraves/
sad deal…
I like the fact how Pasqualle didn’t mention the Nos Events Center or any other venue in town that has hosted it before.
