The booty-clapping nation must be rather confused this morning. Not only is Luther Campbell of X-rated rap group 2 Live Crew runing for mayor of Miami, but the man who rose to fame for his pro-stripper electro raps (sparking a national battle against censorship over his 1989 album, As Nasty As They Wanna Be) is proposing to tax strippers to help the city’s financial woes.

“I think we can stimulate the economy with a tax on strippers,” Campbelltold the Miami New Times . “They make all this money and don’t pay taxes. I’d take that cash and put it into a fund where it supports youth athletics for girls like cheerleading or softball.”

Talk about what you know seems to be the campaign strategy, although Campbell does seem to have plenty of thoughts on the city beyond the thong-buying constituency. Read the full interview here.
