Top Five Albums (Not In Any Order)

This year was basically full of bands that I really like making good albums that I didn’t like quite as much as the last one (LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip, Clipse, Jamie Lidell). But there were still a few long-players that got repeat listens.

Sade – Soldier of Love

Who imagined that in 2010, my face album wool come from a performer who appears on Ellen. The production on Soldier of Love sounds like it could have been made in Bristol in the ’90s, but it’s the singer’s timeless voice that sells it (and this album actually sold).

Robyn – Body Talk

Maybe I’m just turning into a yoga mom, but here’s another record that rocked me even though one imagines more of a luna bar demographic. 30+ years after Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer proved all you need is a synth arpeggio and a good hook to make a hit record, this Swedish pop vet is still perfecting the formula.

Best Coast – Crazy For You

Girlie pop-rock that harkened back to the best days of mid-’90s indie pop ala-Simple Machines and Teen Beat. Also maintains the girlie nature of this list. Come on iTunes, anything that would impress my music snob bros?

Asher Roth – Seared Foie Gras with Quince & Cranberry

OK- something for the boys. I kinda let Asher roll off my back when all the URB interns were rocking his early mixtapes, but this one got my attention. Good times and repeat listens.

The Time Space Machine – Set Phazers To Stun

Best of 2010 :: Joshua Glazer
This is really more a holdover from my undying love for Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve (whose 2009 remix comp was my album of that year). Richard Norris takes his techno-psychedelia out for another spin, and while it misses Erol Alkan’s talent for a hook, there’s still plenty to bite into here.
