Simply put, everybody loves a sample sale; it’s like buying new at vintage prices, though, actually, the prices on vintage have really gotten out of hand over the last decade. Suffice to say, if you’re in L.A. WESC’s sample sale starts today…PLUS: an amazing bit of music from a vintage Soul Train episode, as well as a LAURYN HILL / RON ISLEY duet!!!And if you’re not in L.A., no worries, as we’ve partnered once again with these cool Swedish weirdy-beardies to give away a classic WESC hoodie, and WESC’s perfectly-designed premium selvage jeans, which, alongside Levi’s 501s and (believe it or not) Calvin Klein’s old button flys are the most comfortable and durable jeans I’ve known — with the added bonus being that WESC’s jeans don’t need a few laundry cycles to fit right (I’m speaking from honest experience). And as winter climes emerge, here’s a little holiday shoppin’ music courtesy of the Isley Brothers, covering Seals & Crofts’ “Summer Breeze”, which was licensed to serve as the creepy music for either I Know What You Did Last Summer or the Final Destination Franchise. In any case, here’s what it sounds and looks like when Soul Music Gods bless it: It’s 1973 and the spirit of Jimi Hendrix, with whom these brothers recorded “Testify” in ‘64, still shines bright as guitarist Ernie’s chops blossom and this band which has been at it since 1957(!) and rocked “Twist & Shout” on the charts inspiring The Beatles to follow suit, now rocks a crowd of kids half their age. And they’ve never really stopped since then; Ronald has a new album out now, check out his duet w/Lauryn Hill, below.
You know the best part of Croooklyn was the end credits, when they were watching Soul Train and copying the moves, like so many American families did…I was watching this bit o’magic with my best friend and we were choosing which Isley we’d be, like if we were watching an episode of S.W.A.T. back in the day….everybody wanted to be TJ.
