For many, the first thing that comes to mind after hearing the words “AC Slater” is Zach Morris’ partner in crime—a shirtless Mario Lopez equipped with an awkwardly fuzzy fro-mullet. Although this mistake comes as no surprise to Trouble & Bass’ AC Slater (aka Aaron Clevenger), the renowned DJ-Producer sometimes has to remind people how different he actually is from the fictional Bayside High jock with whom he shares his name. Starting out in the rave scene at a young age, AC Slater has had his hand in quite a few aspects of the indefinable, ever-expanding world of “dance music,” his latest creative venture being his record label, Party Like Us Records (which he started with B.Rich and Udachi). I got a chance to chill with the impressive Mr. Slater at Trouble And Bass’ studio (located in a top secret cave underground) and talk about how he get his start, how the internet has been involved in his success, and what he looks for in an artist.
